It turns out that Chrome 92.0.4515.107 is the first version of Chrome 92.

I removed Chrome and reinstalled the last version of Chrome 90 and IT WORKED.

Instructions here: https://www.technipages.com/downgrade-chrome

Older versions of Chrome here: https://google-chrome.en.uptodown.com/mac/versions

The version that I used here: https://google-chrome.en.uptodown.com/mac/download/3672306

For v90, the instructions here: https://www.technipages.com/chrome-disable-auto-updates

worked for me to disable automatic updates. That does not work for v91 which sets you up for auto-update the next time Chrome opens.

Good luck. No promises. Your Mileage May Vary.

Chrome 92.0.4515.107 was released on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

This thread was started July 27.

Did anyone experience these Drag-n-Drop or Cut-n-Paste issued before that Chrome update release date?

BTW, the latest minor update, Version 92.0.4515.131, does not fix the issue.

Same here, on Mac.

macOS Mojave Version 10.14.6

Chrome Version 92.0.4515.107 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Obviously it's most likely a Chrome problem, if it's happening on both Win and Mac at the same Chrome version.

That means Vlad has some updating to do. He hasn't been on this forum for four months.

I thought maybe I had too many nodes and started researching how to archive them, and then I found that I'm not alone.

I found this out the hard way, of course. I accidentally changed a bunch of stuff that was part of my historical archive in the TO file. So I opened the backup file and copied the older version of that hierarchy. But I couldn't paste it in.

In digging around in TO archives, I found a note to me in 2016 from Vlad at support@tabsoutliner.com about the difference between drag-n-drop (and presumably cut-n-paste) from Backups to TO and from a saved HTML file and TO. At that time, in 2016, Vlad said, "it's hapens because Chrome drop support for custom drag and drop formats."

That suggests to me that the latest version of Chrome might be the problem, no longer supporting what TO uses for its drag-n-drop or cut-n-paste data format.

If I can figure out how to roll back my Chrome version, I'll give that a try.

Multi-Select, Open Source, and Extensions

I've done technical tutorials and API doc for nearly 40 years and I would be very happy to contribute to both the user doc and the open source developer doc.

Would it be practical (I know it's theoretically possible) to expose some kind of API so that others could write add-on extensions to Tabs Outliner? Could JavaScript in Chrome be used to create a multi-select function?

I agree with James Hounshell above and his comment about VIM-style editing. The more I can edit the TO tree as if it is a descriptive text file, the happier I am. And VIM allows creating multiple-action commands mapped to single or short sequences of keystrokes. Being able to extend TO would be HUGE.

Right now, my TO tree is an archive and journal of my research, study, exploration, and play going back to March 2016 and it has 27925 lines in it. I would love to be able to break it up into large chunks of topics, especially older topics, but the lack of a multiple-select tool is an obstacle.

It doesn't sound on the surface like you're doing anything wrong with TO. Are you using any other Chrome extensions that might rearrange the tabs? There are many out there, like "Tab Sorter" or "Rearrange Tabs".

Whenever you manually arrange the tabs in the browser window, TO will attempt to match, but it won't know where to put them relative to the Notes, because the notes aren't in the browser. I assume that the same thing will happen when the tabs are rearranged by another extension.

Try watching carefully as you sort the tabs to see what's in the browser and what's in TO. Maybe try hiding the whole window (with the big green X icon in TO) and then reopening it.

I've been using TO for years and I don't recall any such issues.

Good luck and come back with your experimental results.

There is a lot of passionate discussion on this page, with a simple solution from Jacob buried in the middle:

Instead of writing "Buy Paid Mode License Key"

write "Go to Shopping Cart / View Price".

I, too, am very wary of giving my email address, any email address, before I know the price. I have read "advice" on "How To Make Money On The Internet" that tells people to get the email address first, so you can send them junk mail forever, even before you tell them what the product does.

Because that kind of thinking is loose in the world, it means you have to work very hard to be clear to your customers that you are not one of them.

Vlad has explained that the price differences are more than just currency differences. Automatic currency conversion in the display is not the solution. The solution is to not appear to be a scam that is trying to get your email address to sell. The way to do that is to explain simply and concisely what is going on and why.

Good luck, Vlad. You have fans.
