Launch TO before opening any Chrome windows

Loony Bin 11 years ago updated by 𝐋 øяεηzo 1 year ago 4
I have been trying to figure out a way to open my TO tree before opening Chrome itself (or at least a Chrome window). For me, that is simply easier since I always begin navigating to my tabs straight from TO anyway and always just close the first window that pops up when Chrome launches.

I know that TO can run without any Chrome windows open, so I thought there should be a way to just run it solo from the get-go. To figure this out I ended up running across these Chromium cmdline flags/switches and found one for launching extensions. So far, I have been successful in launching TO solo before Chrome, but I can only access the TO options page and not the actual tree.

In my case, the .exe path with flags looks like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --profile-directory="Profile 1" --app-id="eggkanocgddhmamlbiijnphhppkpkmkl"
where Profile 1 is the user I want to open Chrome as and eggkanocgddhmamlbiijnphhppkpkmkl is the TO app-id, found in C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Profile 1\Extensions (for Windows).

What I'd like to ask is:
1) Is there another, better way to accomplish this?
2) Can the json or js files be altered so that the app-id flag opens the tree view?
3) Could you add a button to the options page that opens the tree view? (not ideal, but probably easiest for you to implement)

...and since I'm not sure the app-ids are consistent across systems, I found the one for TO by going to Chrome options > Tools > Inspect devices > Extensions > Inspect (for TO) > Resources > any of the last 4 or so menus.

Thanks.

Gleaning ideas from BrainStorm outliner.

tabsoutdbes1 10 years ago updated 10 years ago 0
Vladyslav, if you are not familiar with the BrainStorm outliner, here is an intro: http://brainstormsw.com/outliner/competitor-comparison/

Understanding the design decisions behind BrainStorm may be helpful when you are working on enhancing the design of Tabs Outliner.

There lots of outlining nuggets on the BrainStorm website. Unfortunately the BrainStorm website is actually three separate websites (each with different information) with only a few links connecting them to each other.

Here are the top level URLs for each of the websites:

Happy nugget hunting,

Slightly adapted logic tab-close to really protect "saved links" against loss

Dusan Nemecek 10 years ago 0
if authorised by the Chrome could not be useful to extend logic of closing tabs as follows?

1st close
By "GREEN CROSS" (according to TO Standards) - will create a "saved link".
By "RED CROSS" (acc. to Windows Standards) - remove tab.

(again open the "saved link" from TO)

2nd close
Under condition "URL was not changed".
By "GREEN CROSS"- the same.
By "RED CROSS" - the same like "GREEN CROSS" - ie. protected "saved link" in the tree.
With changed URL red cross removes tab.

With common using of an "Ctrl-click" to open links to a new tabs it could be enough without # workaround or "Shif-dblclick", which creates new nests of links in mostly far position of a tree..

This logic could provide protection against own bad habits using of Windows standards especially of the "red crosses" and also against other members who are too fare away honor some big black column with green crosses becouse their only peak of knowledge is mousing over red crosses..

This could be probably similar by function but hope with lower Devs consuming then topic "Allow TO user to "lock" selected URLs".

'Pinning' a window in TO

MrJAZ 12 years ago updated 12 years ago 5

Have you considered adding functionality to 'pin' windows or tabs in TO?  In other words, the window would remain in the TO tree, until trashed.  This would do some of the job of a session manager, with less messing about.

In detail:  A window (or tab?) is 'pinned'.  It remains in the TO tree until trashed, even if it is not saved in TO and is closed in chrome.  The green cross would still unload the window/tabs as now.  If it is not pinned, it acts as it does now.

My preference would be that if the window is pinned, and when closed (either in TO or chrome), the tabs currently inside it are all saved.

In the UI, it could be handled as a pin, next to the green cross perhaps.

Give us true outliner controls

Michael Bernstein 12 years ago 0

Outliners have controls to move the currently selected node:

  1. Move up
  2. Move down
  3. Increase indentation
  4. Decrease indentation
Take a look at the MS Word outliner for an example.

And when you get around to adding keyboard shortcut equivalents, these actions will come in *very* handy.

Would be Nice if New Windows Opened Groups Above a Placed Separator

Mossload 12 years ago updated by vladyslav volovyk 12 years ago 1

I am able to make Groups (Saved Window) but, when I open & close chrome, a new group is created at the bottom of the list, below my created group (saved window).  After opening & closing chrome a few times, my saved window/group gets lost among many new groups.  If I create a separator, it makes no difference, new groups continue to be created below the separator.

Right click in tab tree view to organize tabs

Wendy Xue 9 years ago updated 9 years ago 1
It will be great if in the tree tab view, we can right click the tab and then send that tab to different kind of folders (groups name) that we have set up before to organize our messy tab, without having to drag and drop and messy scrolling up and down. please consider.

Deleting an uncollapsed window, does not delete the contained tab

Yousef Haidar 9 years ago 0

I understand that this might be a feature, to quickly remove tabs from the parent window. However, it is not ideally to have to click two buttons; first click the the collapse button; then click the delete button, just to delete a single window. If it is a feature to remove tabs from the window then please add a button for it, and make the delete work as it should.

I wasn't sure if this is a bug or a feature, to me it looks like a bug. if it was a feature, then I would assume it would be clear that the button will delete the window without the tabs.
